Lego Serious Play

LEGO SERIOUS PLAY is a training approach created by The Lego Group. Launched in 2010, it now operates under an open-source, community-driven framework. The primary aim of this method is to enhance creative thinking and communication skills. Participants construct 3D models using Lego bricks to represent their concepts and narrate the stories behind these models, hence the term “serious play.”

How does Lego Serious Play Work?

At its core, the Lego Serious Play methodology employs a 4-step approach:

  1. Question: The session facilitator posses a question to the group.
  2. Build: Each group member builds a model from the 3-D blocks in response to the question.
  3. Share: Each participant shares their model and associated story with the rest of the group. This model serves as a vehicle for exchanging knowledge and discovering new points for view, problem-solving approaches and decision-making processes.
  4. Reflection: Participants individually and as a group reflect on the various model build ideas, execution and stories behind it.
